Family Time

Our best moments as a family are usually when we are cooking.  This weekend was no exception.  James works a 4 on, 4 off schedule, and this is the first time in many months that he actually had his 4 days off without being called in to solve some major world crisis or another.  So by Sunday he was well rested {maybe too well rested} and squirly.  He convinced me that we should make pasta, and I did gamely decide to join despite the fact that I have been living in barf city for the last few weeks due to some “awesome” morning sickness {thanks kid}.

It is really wonderful spending time with my husband cooking.  It is the love of food that brought us together and when we cook together we get this deep feeling like we are going back to our roots and enjoying our “first love” together.  I get the same feeling cooking with him as I did way back when we were in that magical new love stage when none of the hardships or stark realities of life are present.  Just sweet new love.  Now we can have little moments of that intertwined with mortgages, babies, bills, jobs, diapers, chores, and even barf city.  It still just as sweet.

We made goat cheese & sage with caramelized onion and garlic ravioli, pesto fettuccine and vanilla & black pepper panacotta with cherry preserve filling.  It was heavenly.  Little Chef did his happy dance while eating it.
