Father’s Day

When I was a kid father’s day was always filled with weird homemade cards and gifts and big breakfasts and sitting on dad’s lap laughing and goofing off.  I never imagined then how much the holiday would grow into something so much more than that for me.  Because now on father’s day I think of my husband.  The father of my precious babies.  The rock of a man who stands beside me and fights through life holding us all up.

His name is Jamie and he is amazing.  Not in the regular sense like “this cheesecake is amazing”, more in the “wow these mountains are truly amazing” kind of way.  Watching him become a dad has made me fall deeper in love with him.  I didn’t know how kind and strong and compassionate he could be until we had our kids.  Nothing prepared me for how much it would change my view of him.

Jamie has been my best friend for many years.  Many years before we were ever romantic, or married or parents.  From the start he was my friend.   But now so much more than that he is our rock.  The one person I know 100% would die for me.  And fight for me.  And parent crazy tiny people with me.

I can’t talk about Jamie as a father without thinking about Baby Natalie’s birth.  It was amazing and wonderful,  and I know that is because of him.  I was so focused that I only saw him.
Only heard his voice coaching me and telling me I was doing great.   He was the one who caught our sweet girl and handed her to me.  He was the one.  The one to gently with his strong arms and hands guide her in to this world.  Show her that there was a world outside of my womb.  That she would be loved and cared for and protected for all of her days.  She will grow up knowing this because he not only protects her as a father, but he protects me.  And sets the kind of example of what a man should be and how he should treat those around him.

I can’t thank you enough Jamie for being the man you are.  For keeping us all happy and healthy and loved.  For propping me up when I am down so I can continue to mother our babies.  For showing the kids the wonder of life.  For filling their heads with happiness and their bellies with amazing food.  You are the best father I could ask for for my kids.  And I thank God for you every day.  So happy Father’s day babe.  You rock.
